To the Families of Southeast Texas

For 74 years, Claybar Funeral Homes have served families in Southeast Texas during some very difficult times. Together, we have faced the challenges of hurricanes and floods with strength, faith and an abiding sense of community.

Today, our challenge is neither wind nor rain, but an unseen, even more dangerous advisory. The Coronavirus is challenging us all to sacrifice in new ways, to re-evaluate how we communicate, how we work, how we live in community and how we care for and support one another.

There is no greater concern for us than the safety and wellbeing of the families we serve and our dedicated staff and their families.

To this end, and in keeping with the guidelines and requirements issued by local, state and federal agencies, we will be implementing various changes to protect the health and well-being of our families and staff.

  • First, for as long as deemed safe by authorities, we will continue making funeral arrangements, working with families to create meaningful ways to honor life while limiting the number of people in attendance to the most recent government guidelines. This will be a challenge to us all but is essential if we are to limit the spread of this deadly virus.
  • We have always taken pride in the cleanliness of our facilities. With the seriousness of the Coronavirus, however, will be increasing our efforts to clean and disinfect our facilities to provide the safest possible environment.
  • This will include increased disinfecting of restrooms and hard surfaces; disinfecting the arrangement tables following each arrangement conference; and cleaning all door handles five times daily.
  • We will be using only our full-time professional staff as necessary, allowing our support staff to shelter at home with their families.
  • All working staff members will have their temperature taken 5 times daily and recorded in a special response log.
  • Finally, the Claybar team is closely following the Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines and will adjust our responses as appropriate and necessary.

I know the next few weeks will be challenging.

As demonstrated so many times, however, I am confident we will witness once again, the remarkable faith, strength and compassion of the people of Southeast Texas.

Thank you for the trust you have placed in us.
